Smith vows to battle on after cup embarrassment

Walsall's humiliating home defeat to Lincoln last night has upped the pressure on Dean Smith, but the boss is vowing to battle on, saying his Saddlers side are paying the price for their great start to the season.
Under pressure: Dean Smith
The FA Cup loss was the seventh defeat in eleven for Walsall who are currently down in 17th place in the league, as well as being out of the cup.
However, Smith believes that their explosive start, which saw them win six of their first ten league games, led to unrealistic expectations.
"At the start of the season there were no expectations on us and we started well with some really good results," he told the club's official website after last night's defeat.
"With that came more pressure because those expectation levels were raised and we have to be able to live with that and deal with it."
With questions now being asked about whether he should remain in the job, Walsall's boss of almost two years insists he is firmly focused on getting a result in Saturday's trip to Crawley Town.
"My job now is to build the confidence back up, but the players also have to help themselves and be better.
"I'm hopeful of having Andy Taylor back on Saturday and we have other key players back in the fold," he told www.saddlers.co.uk.
