Dean Smith says that his Walsall side will approach their Midlands derby against Coventry with 'relish and determination' as they look for their first win in 15 games.

That poor run has seen the Saddlers drop down the table, but Smith believes that his side are in good shape to take on the Sky Blues, who currently have off-field financial worries dominating their thoughts.

"Having had a weekend without action last week, it's a good game for us to go back into and the players are really looking forward to it," the manager told

"It's a lovely stadium and a good pitch, so we face the challenge that sits before us with real relish and determination."

Smith and his players took advantage of their free weekend to travel to Snowdonia, and the boss thinks that the trip will stand the players in good stead for the busy festive period of fixtures.

"It was good to get away from the usual footballing environment," he explained on the club's official website.

"We took part in activities such as mountaineering and gorge-walking. It all helps with team bonding and time will tell exactly how beneficial it has been.

"We have a busy schedule of matches ahaed of us over the next month with plenty of points up for grabs. The important thing is to take one game at a time and ensure that, as always, we are well-prepared and ready for the task in hand."
