MP slams hikes in energy prices

THE MP for Walsall North, David Winnick, has condemned the forthcoming price hikes by energy companies.

Mr Winnick said the rise in domestic gas prices will cause "more hardship" for families across the borough.

He said: "I have written on previous occasions to the energy minister urging that the Government should exercise some restraint on British Gas and other similar privatised energy companies.

"The profits of these companies are huge, and in my view there is no justification for the forthcoming increase, on top of the substantial increase made only recently."

Mr Winnick added: "Understandably, I am already receiving letters of complaint from constituents about the price rises, and would hope that the weight of public opinion will persuade this Government to take some action at last."
