Taz Daliwal scores for Walsall Colts in their National Plate win at Stafford
THIS was a convincing win by a depleted Walsall squad in the third round of the National Colts Plate.
Walsall dominated the game on a cold afternoon at Stafford. The six tries were scored by Richard Baker (2), Aaron Chew, Taz Daliwall and Connor McGuik.
Rob Angell scored a try and kicked four conversions. Stafford worked hard and deserved their two tries late in the game.
The Walsall team will face Melbourne from Derbyshire in the fourth round at the start of 2013.
WALSALL UNDER-11S AND UNDER-12S V TAMWORTH
The first match-up between these teams last weekend turned into an entertaining affair.
Tamworth scored first, but the Walsall tackling became far more positive.
Wave after wave of pressure from Walsall's forwards worked well and eventually Cory Selby crashed through the Tamworth defence for a well-deserved score.
Ben Pitt's conversion was the last score of a very close game.
The 7-7 scoreline was a true reflection of the match.
Match two was another tense encounter with Walsall starting really well.
The team defended remarkably well against a larger Tamworth squad.
The visitors got the first score when their winger squeezed in at the corner.
Walsall began to dominate after half-time and chances were created, which finally resulted in Cory Selby crossing for his second try of the match.
Ben Pitt's conversion levelled the score.
Walsall were keen to secure the win, and more encouraging attacking play meant, more pressure on Tamworth.
Five minutes from time, Walsall collected a Tamworth dropped pass and after a couple of rucks.
Luke broke off the base of a ruck and crashed over to score.
Ben Pitt added the extra two points to secure a well-deserved 14-7 victory.
